 მცხეთის აკროპოლისის ტერიტორიაზე არქეოლოგიური გათხრების შედეგად სპეციალისტებმა მნიშვნელოვანი ძეგლები აღმოაჩინეს. დადგინდა, რომ აქ ანტიკურ პერიოდში მეფეები ცხოვრობდნენ.მეცნიერებმა აღმოაჩინეს ანტიკური პერიოდის ტაძრის ფრაგმენტები, ასევე ღვინის მარანი, აბანოები, საწყობები. მეცნიერები არ გამორიცხავენ, რომ ამ ადგილას შესაძლოა სხვა უნიკალური ისტორიული მოწმობებიც აღმოაჩინონ. გათხრები კულტურული მემკვიდრეობის დაცვის ეროვნული სააგენტოსა და საქართველოს ეროვნული მუზეუმის ერთობლივი პროექტის ფარგლებში წარმოებს.
